Our 4 Days from Ouarzazate to Marrakech via Sahara Desert tour is a private, one-way journey through the Great South of Morocco, following some of the most remote tracks in the country before looping back north to Marrakech. Setting off early from Ouarzazate, we follow the winding Draa Valley, one of the longest river valleys in Morocco, watching the landscape shift from arid plateau to palm groves stretching for miles, dotted with authentic Berber villages and adobe kasbahs.
From there we head deeper into the desert along the legendary track of the former Dakar Rally, between Alnif and the remote dunes of Ouzina, before continuing to Merzouga for a night among nomadic families, the Gnawa village of Khamlia, and a camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset. The return leg crosses Todra Gorge, the Dades Valley, the Valley of Roses and the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, before finishing in Marrakech.
This tour runs privately, with your own driver-guide and 4×4 vehicle throughout. If you are looking for a shorter version of this same desert loop ending back in Ouarzazate, take a look at our 2 Nights Desert Tour from Ouarzazate.

Day 1: Ouarzazate → Draa Valley → Alnif → Dakar Track → Overnight in Ouzina
Your driver-guide picks you up from your hotel or riad in Ouarzazate to begin this 4 Days from Ouarzazate to Marrakech via Sahara Desert tour. We follow a winding road alongside the Draa River, one of the longest rivers in Morocco, watching the landscape shift from arid plateau to palm groves stretching for miles.
Along the way we’ll make several stops to admire authentic Berber villages and charming adobe kasbahs — striking constructions of straw, mud and water overlooking the palm grove.
After lunch in Alnif, we continue toward the famous track of the former Dakar Rally, enjoying sweeping views over the pure, authentic desert of Ouzina — one of the most peaceful and least-visited desert areas in Morocco. The track between Taouz and Ouzina shows just how varied this Great South landscape can be, from arid stretches to green vegetation and orange dunes contrasting with dark mountains.
On arrival in Ouzina, we check into a charming typical Berber lodge for dinner and overnight.
Accommodation: Kasbah auberge in Ouzina
Meals: Dinner and breakfast included
Day 2: Ouzina – Tour of the Dunes – Camel Ride & Night in a Berber Camp, Merzouga
After a freshly made Berber breakfast at the lodge, we set off toward Merzouga on a day full of varied terrain — Berber villages, dunes, 4×4 tracks, dry riverbeds, hamadas and oases — starting with another stretch of the old Dakar Rally track by 4×4.
Once in Merzouga, we tour around the dunes and visit local nomadic settlements in the Erg Chebbi area, sharing tea with them and learning about their traditions, customs and way of life.
For lunch, we head to the village of Khamlia, between Merzouga and Taouz, known locally as “the village of the blacks.” Its residents will welcome us with tea and peanuts, a performance of their Gnawa music — originally from sub-Saharan Africa — and the chance to taste the famous Berber pizza. If you wish, you can also spend part of the afternoon on a quad or buggy, climbing the surrounding dunes for a unique thrill.
In the afternoon, we head back to the lodge to climb aboard our camels for the ride to the Berber camp in the middle of the dunes. This magical, hour-long ride brings an unforgettable sunset over the desert of Merzouga — the most anticipated moment of this 4 Days from Ouarzazate to Marrakech via Sahara Desert tour. At the camp, relax with a welcome mint tea, then enjoy a candlelit dinner of local dishes followed by live Berber drumming around the campfire. Rest in your Berber tent beneath a blanket of stars.
Accommodation: Berber camp in the Erg Chebbi desert
Meals: Dinner and breakfast included
Day 3: Merzouga – Merzouga Desert – Todra Gorges – Dades
After an unforgettable night in the haimas, rise early if you can to admire another highlight of this tour — sunrise over the Sahara and between the dunes of Merzouga.
After this magical desert moment, we ride the camels back to the lodge, with time to shower and enjoy a refreshing Berber breakfast.
We head to the village of Rissani, the ancient Sijilmassa and former supply center for the caravans coming from the Sahara — one of the most emblematic towns in the Merzouga region, its souk once among the busiest stops along the caravan routes, and famous for its donkey parking on market days.
Continuing through a semi-desert landscape, we reach the oasis of Tinghir, arguably one of the most beautiful spots in Morocco. About twenty-five kilometers north, up the Todra River, we arrive at the impressive Todra Gorges — natural canyon walls over 300m high, recognized as one of the most spectacular rock canyons in the world, with a scenic road leading past a beautiful palm grove.
After visiting the gorges and their village, we take the famous Route of the Thousand Kasbahs to reach the Dades Gorges, where the river has carved an incredible landscape over time.
In the evening, we check into our charming accommodation in Dades for dinner and overnight.
Accommodation: Kasbah riad in Dades
Meals: Dinner and breakfast included
Day 4: Dades – Valley of Roses – Ait Ben Haddou – Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
This final day of our 4 Days from Ouarzazate to Marrakech via Sahara Desert tour begins after a hearty breakfast, heading back toward Marrakech through the Valley of Roses.
Less than 50 km from Skoura lies Kelaa M’Gouna, a fortified village famous for its rose-water distillery. Set at the foot of the High Atlas, this valley’s hectares of rose bushes fill the air with fragrance each May, during flowering season from mid-April to mid-May — the cultivation of roses and the distillation of essences being among the area’s most important industries, celebrated every year with its own Rose Festival.
We continue to the Skoura Palm Grove, a vast oasis of more than 700,000 palm trees, its greenery contrasting sharply with the arid plateau around it and dotted with kasbahs and authentic adobe villages where time seems to stand still.
In the afternoon, passing through numerous Berber villages built from adobe in the mountains, we reach the fortress of Ait Ben Haddou, visiting its famous Kasbah — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the backdrop for films such as Gladiator, Asterix & Obelix, and Sahara.
After a few photo stops, we continue over the Tizi n’Tichka pass and stop for lunch at a local mountain restaurant. We also visit an argan oil cooperative, where the local women explain the traditional process of making argan oil and its many benefits.
We continue on to Marrakech, where you’ll have a free evening to stroll through Jemaa el-Fna Square and enjoy a mint tea or dinner at one of its lively food stalls.
