Our 2 Days Ouarzazate to Merzouga Desert Tour is a private, one-way route from the “gate of the desert” to the golden dunes of the Sahara Desert, crossing some of southern Morocco’s most striking valleys along the way. It’s the ideal option if you’re already in Ouarzazate and want a short, well-paced route into the desert, ending with a night in a Sahara camp under the stars.

Day 1: Ouarzazate → Skoura → Valley of Roses → Dades Valley → Todra Gorges → Merzouga
Your driver-guide picks you up from your hotel or riad in Ouarzazate in the morning. We first head to Skoura, a vast palm oasis dotted with historic kasbahs, including the impressive Kasbah Amridil, for a short walk through traditional irrigation channels and Berber architecture.
We continue through the fragrant Valley of Roses around El Kelaa M’Gouna, especially beautiful in spring when the Damascus roses bloom, with the option to visit a rose-water distillery. From there we climb into the Dades Valley, known for its unusual rock formations and lush terraces, with a stop at a scenic viewpoint over the gorge.
After lunch, we continue to the spectacular Todra Gorge, where the Todra River has carved a dramatic canyon between towering red cliffs — time to walk into the gorge on foot before continuing through the palm groves of Tinjdad and Erfoud towards the desert.
In the late afternoon we arrive at the golden dunes of the Merzouga Sahara. A camel trek takes you across the dunes, with a stop atop a high dune to watch the sunset, before reaching your desert camp. Enjoy a Berber dinner with drumming and dancing around the campfire. Overnight stay in the camp.
Driving Distance: 350 km | Duration: ~6 hours
Day 2: Merzouga – Rissani – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate
Begin your day with an unforgettable desert sunrise. Wake up early to watch the first rays of sunlight illuminate the golden dunes of Merzouga, creating a peaceful and magical atmosphere. After breakfast, ride the camels back to Merzouga, where your driver will be waiting to continue the journey.
Your first stop is Rissani, a historic town once at the heart of the trans-Saharan trade routes. Take some time to explore its famous traditional souk, where locals gather to trade everything from spices and fresh produce to handicrafts and traditional goods. The lively atmosphere offers a fascinating glimpse into everyday life in southeastern Morocco.
Continue through the breathtaking Draa Valley, a spectacular region celebrated for its endless palm groves, fortified villages, and ancient kasbahs. As you travel along the valley, enjoy the changing scenery and take in the contrast between the lush oasis and the surrounding desert landscapes. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing toward Ouarzazate.
In the afternoon, the road leads you back to Ouarzazate, with beautiful landscapes accompanying you along the way. Upon arrival, you’ll be dropped off at your accommodation, bringing your two-day desert adventure to a memorable close.
